Wow! 13 school days left! It sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. We need you here, and we need you working!
We have a lot of cool, but large assignments we are finishing before the end of the quarter. If you consistently work a little at a time, assignments will be more than manageable! Keep on working and keep up the great work. We are excited to see your final projects! As we near the half way point in this quarter we are encouraging students and families to continue to utilize all available resources. Our Blog is updated regularly with helpful information about core classes. Class time is often given to work on projects and or homework. This is a great time for students to ask questions and get clarification about any assignment.
Thank you for your continued support and be on the look out for progress reports. Have a wonderful upcoming Thanksgiving. As we close on our second week in second quarter Mrs. Uhrhan and Mrs. Schuver want to update you on homework. If your student is coming home with only 20 minutes or so of homework don't be alarmed! This means that your student is using their time wisely in class! Mrs. Uhrhan and Mrs. Schuver both give time (on most days) to start assignments in class. This includes time to work on projects, ask questions to clarify misunderstandings, and work on assigned homework. This being said if your student IS coming home with more than an hour of work this may mean they are not using their class time to its fullest potential.
Now is the time to have a conversation with your student, especially with conferences just around the corner and check in. We are seeing a lot of good habits forming, like writing in planners daily. This week students have been working hard on a branches of government project. This included giving a brief oral presentation in front of the class. Students had the opportunity to practice some public speaking skills and all did a wonderful job! In Science students are embarking on the fascinating unit of the human body! Mrs. Uhrhan has enjoyed all the questions and loves the excitement students are showing. In math this week students have had conversations about combining like terms and working on writing expressions from sentences. Students are overall handling this topic well! Finally in English students have been getting into their book clubs. In this unit students will explore many topics including character traits, figurative language, and plot/ character development. As always have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during student led conferences! Welcome to a fresh startWow! That went by fast! 1st quarter is over. Mrs. Shuver and Mrs. Uhrhan will be spending the afternoon prepping our classrooms for next quarter and a fresh start for all including new houses and math groups.
Next week our cell projects are due. We have been working diligently on them at home and school. Mrs. Uhrhan really looks forward to seeing the final products! Students will be prepping for conferences in the coming weeks. Students will get to choose one artifact for each class to go in their conference folder, and we as teachers, will choose the second artifact for you to share. We would LOVE to see 100% attendance at these in November, so please sign up. We are excited to chat with all of you and get to know this great support system you have provided for your kiddos. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help in any way we can! 1st quarter end is quickly approaching; Are you ready? Hello all! As the quarter comes to an end this week, Mrs. Schuver and Mrs. Uhrhan will be pressing students to get in work, so those zeros disappear. After Friday, no work will be accepted for 1st quarter. Grades remain final in the grade book and everyone begins with a clean slate Monday. In the coming weeks students will be preparing for their student led conferences. Students will gather work they are proud of and place that work in their folders, so if you are holding on to any projects or tests, make sure they make their way back to showcase in our portfolio. Parents be sure to schedule your conference time. Your child will be leading the conference. Mrs. Schuver and Mrs. Uhrhan will be there to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Those are coming up November 1st and 3rd. Thank you for your continued support! We hope to see as many of you there as possible!!! This week was the first week students were able to bring string bags to class! From here on out students are aloud to bring their string bags around with them from class to class. That being said we hope that there are less tardies because students will not need to go to their lockers as often.
This week has also been a week of hard work for students! They have worked hard to polish up their personal narratives, turned in BEAUTIFUL science projects, worked with fractions, and debated from the perspective of Loyalists and Patriots. Keep up all the hard work! As the school year continues our content will continue to challenge the minds of your student and push them to new heights. Hello! Progress reports are coming out this week. For some of us, we know the path we are on and are okay with it; for some of us this will be a hard reality check as to where we need to be and the need to get focused before the quarter ends. Because expectations have risen coming in to middle school, we realize this can be a challenging beginning, but we have no doubts that all can raise their grades by the end of the quarter and turn things around. Please check in with your child and make sure everything is being turned in on time and priority is academics. Another place you can check in with your child's late or missing assignments is his or her flyer card.
Math wants to give a shout out to Joanna Lea who was the only student to receive a 100% on her 2nd math test of all 50 students. Way to go Jojo! As always, feel free to contact Mrs. Schuver and Mrs. Uhrhan if you have any questions or concerns. Happy Half Quarter to all! This week was a week of firsts. First labs, first tests, first projects due. Mrs. Schuver and Mrs. Uhrhan have had a lot of fun seeing their work and progress. This is a big step up from elementary school, and we are so proud of the work and effort everyone has been giving. There is plenty of time left in the semester to keep on improving in all of these areas. Stay strong 6 Silver. If you put this much effort in all year long, it is going to be a great year. Check below for some pictures from lab this week.
